About the program
Do you have an interest in supporting the Fire District in a non-firefighter capacity? Our Support Services program may be a great option for you to aid in a time of emergency in a non-firefighting role.
Members of our Support Services team are responsible for responding during certain kinds of emergencies to provide direct support to the firefighters and EMT’s who are working on the emergency scene. Support Services volunteers work outside the immediately hazardous zone and provide support through things like food and water, providing areas for rest, providing and assisting with basic first aid needs, and will be trained for things like traffic control and refilling firefighter Self Contained Breathing Apparatus bottles. (SCBA).
Support Services volunteers will complete initial training which includes communications, incident operations, driving, and many other various supporting roles. Volunteers will attend training twice per month on Thursday nights and will be available on call to respond to larger incidents. Typically, these volunteers respond to larger incidents such as structure and wildland fires, which are less common but require longer scene times for our firefighters. Volunteers can expect to respond to 6-10 incidents requiring support services per year. This can fluctuate seasonally and based on needs of the Fire District.
In addition to emergency response, Support Service volunteers will aid in providing incident support services at the station following longer incidents or potentially during times of disaster like snow/ice storms. Volunteers may participate and assist with community events, public education, and special district events. This is a great way to be involved with the fire department while not serving as a firefighter.
